Avanti's Dinner Concert - Sunday, February 25

posted Feb 19, 2018, 7:34 AM by Kyle Renchen   [ updated Feb 19, 2018, 7:36 AM ]

Band students in grades 5-12 will be performing at the annual Double Donation Dinner Concert on Sunday, February 25 beginning at 4:15pm at the high school. Click here for more info.

The dinner works like this... we ask that you donate money, in advance, that we will use to purchase food for the dinner. Even if you don’t donate, we hope you’ll come to the dinner concert to hear your favorite young musician perform in hopes that you will stay and enjoy a meal of salad, gondola sandwich, a drink, and dessert. The catch is that we ask for a $5 donation for your meal, one that you have already helped pay for…thus the name.

Food will be served in the commons starting at 4:15.
The bands will perform in the gym in this order:
5th grade band - 4:30
6th grade band - 4:50
7th/8th grade band - 5:10
HS band - 5:35

The raffle drawing will take place around 6:00. Come hear your favorite band student perform and help support the band program by staying to eat some great food!

Trip Apparel

posted Feb 2, 2018, 5:57 AM by Kyle Renchen

The HS Band is traveling to perform and represent the GCMS community at Disney World in 2 months and there is apparel available if you are interested!

The online store is open now and closes Feb 11. It features t-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, etc. Payment is due at time of check-out. Items will be delivered directly to school & distributed from there. This is not a fundraiser, but instead just an opportunity for "band fans" to get some cool apparel.

Questions? Please email Mr. Renchen (renchen.kyle@gcmsk12.org).

5th Grade Band Registration

posted Sep 19, 2017, 6:01 AM by Kyle Renchen

Dear Fifth Grade Parents:

Good news! Your child has the opportunity to join band this year. The process of organizing Fifth Grade Beginning Band has begun. While there are several benefits to studying music, one important note is that it will increase your child’s overall brain functionality and allow them to enjoy all aspects of music (and life) to a higher degree. Please give serious thought to this important part of your child’s complete education. I will do my best to help your child succeed in the band program.

Band Registration Night will be held in the Elementary music room on Wednesday, September 20 from 4:00pm–8:00pm. You and your student will come to finalize their instrument choice on this night. Representatives from The Music Shoppe will be present to assist with rent-to-own plans for instruments, as well as answer any questions you may have.

The recommended method for obtaining an instrument is on a trial rent-to-own plan through The Music Shoppe in Normal or Champaign. A low-cost rental plan has been made available by this music company, whereby you may rent an instrument for your child. These instruments are guaranteed to work and they provide your child with the best chances for success. If financially able, we highly recommend renting through The Music Shoppe. You are free to make your own arrangements for an instrument, however we ask that you seek the advice of a music specialist before purchase. A small number of school-owned instruments are available for use free of charge and, though they are functioning, they are of a lesser quality than the rent-to-own instruments. School-owned instruments are on a first come, first served basis.

In order to keep wait times to a minimum, we have developed the following schedule:

4:00-4:30 – Last name W-Z

6:00-6:30 – Last name M-N

4:30-5:00 – Last name S-V

6:30-7:00 – Last name G-L

5:00-5:30 – Last name Q-R

7:00-7:30 – Last name C-F

5:30-6:00 – Last name O-P

7:30-8:00 – Last name A-B

If you have a conflict, please attend whenever you are able. Please feel free to contact me via email if you have questions.  renchen.kyle@gcmsk12.org

We look forward to seeing you on September 20!
